Research

I am interested in the idea of freedom and its relationship to social power.

My most recent focus has been the nature of freedom and domination in the economy. I have been developing a socialist republican approach to these themes.

The historical dimension of my work has been growing in recent years, and I plan to devote more time to the history of political thought, particularly discussions of freedom and slavery in nineteenth-century radical thought.

In the past, I have also written on topics in metaethics, philosophy of religion, the history of moral thought, social philosophy, medical ethics, philosophy of disability, and the study of autonomy.

Most of my work can be accessed in some form on the publications page.
